How many days in Kathmandu?

This will be the question many will have in mind before they travel to Kathmandu Nepal.

To visit Kathmandu, for us, you need at least 4 days in Kathmandu, means you need 5 days 4 nights in Kathmandu. Here, let’s us elaborate more in details.

Kathmandu is the capital city of Nepal. It is a big city full with UNESCO heritage sites and a bit further is Nagarkot Hill Station. Thus, not possible to visit Kathmandu in a day or two. You need to make decision, and here, see the map of Kathmandu(map copied credit to pinterest image.)

Below, we are going to give some ideas on tours in Kathmandu valley, and we are having some Kathmandu tour itinerary for your as reference

1) Kathmandu Day Tour – Visit UNESCO sites of Kathmandu – Monkey Temple, Boudanath Stupa, Pashupatinath Temple, Patan Durbar Square and Kathmandu Durbar Square.

This is the most popular Kathmandu day trip, which most of the tourists will visit the Unesco Sites of Nepal which will give you a basic understanding of Kathmandu cultures and histories.

All places covered today will be Monkey Temple, Boudanath Stupa, Pashupatinath Temple, Patan Durbar Square and Kathmandu Durbar Square.  This will be an easy tour for those who want to take pictures for Instagram.

2) Nagarkot Day Tour – Visit Nagarkot and Bhaktapur Durbar Square. We will advise you to do the Nagarkot Sunrise View and Day Hiking from Kathmandu. Sunrise view in Nagarkot is extremely beautiful, and if weather permit, you will have the chance to see Mt Everest from the Nagarkot itself.

Nagarkot Day Hike via Jarsing Pauwa is the most beutiful trekking trail in Nagarkot area. It is a 3 hours short trek from Kathmandu. You will see Langtang, Ganesh Himal, Manaslu range of mountains. You will be considered lucky to see Mt Everest during this Nagarkot Jarsing Pauwa Day hike. This is the best trekking in Nepal to see unique Nepali culture, village lifestyle and ethnic diversity. nagarkot and mt everest

3) Dhulikhel Namobuddha Panauti Day Tour – Visit Dhulikhel Hill Station, Namobuddha Temple (Tibetan temple) and visit the UNESCO Town of Panauti – This is Angie’s favourate day tour in Kathmandu.

Overall, above are 3 days tours in Kathmandu, it means, basically, if you want to cover Kathmandu, you need a minimum of 3 days 2 nights in the capital city of Nepal. Best still, you can spend a day or two more by doing some volunteering work in Nepal, then your short vacation in Nepal will have no regrets.
