Khukuri is one of the lasting legacy of the brave Nepalis. Once used by the legendary Gurkhas, it forms a unique identity of Nepali people.
Khukuri today is bought as souvenirs by tourists visiting Nepal. There are a great deal of shops selling Khukuris in tourist areas like Thamel, Pokhara and Chitwan. However, the real and ordinary knives are hard to find in cities.
Many found in the tourist markets are specifically for tourists to be taken as a souvenir. They are lighter and more shiny. Please make sure not to pack them into your carry-on bag when flying out of Nepal.
